Burj-o-rama Baby - #89
OK, ok... a panoramic tourist's eye view of one small part of Dubai. You've seen a view of it before, but here's a new one...
I need to move on to bigger things soon. That's out the system for a while again...

Wham Bam Thank You Mina Seyahi - #86
Ok, how Dubai do you want?
This is a picture of power boat racing with the man made peninsula of the Jumeriah Palm behind it. The location was Le Merdien Mina Seyahi Hotel.
They are so loud! I am still deaf.
More to come from this series I tell you... WHAT? I SAID MORE TO COME.....

The View From Vu - #82
... so here is Dubai.
The view from 50 floors on Emirates Towers to the beach, although only from one small angle. Possibly the worst quality photo I have posted, but I wanted to show you the city from a different angle.
Luggi, Bill & Michael - does this help? I doubt it! :)

Enjoying The Vu - #81
No, my spelling is quite fine in the title - This is "Vu's Bar" in Emirates Towers.
It has this name as it is the highest bar in the Gulf and is at the highest part of the 50 floor hotel.
They claim to have the biggest cocktail selection possibly in the world... and for some reason are photo-phobic. They tried to remove the camera from me after this shot! I don't know why...

A Thorny Issue - #80
People sometimes think that Dubai and the UAE are all sand and not much else except for the odd 5 star hotel and a camel or two.
There are some great deserts, however there are also rugged mountains with their own fauna and foliage eking out an existance.
These tress are pretty hardy and widespread with their thorny antics.

Falcon Frenzy - #79
Some say that Dubai lacks culture and to some degree they could be right.
However Dubai does do street art quite well. These falcons are individual art works and they are dotted all round the city. There has also been camels and horses previously.
This particular one is made to represent the traditional Arabic red chequered head dress I imagine.

Post It Note From God? - #78
Curious message stuck on the wall of a mosque...
Really - I'm a simple guy. I have no problem with anyone...
I've not visited the site. I try not to take instruction from strangers via post it note when comes to religious matters...

The Old And The New - #77
A mix of the old and the new...
The ancient heritage of exercising the camels and the birth of a city in the background. Note the tallest building is the Burj Dubai which will be the worlds tallest building by the end of 2008. It is currently over 80 floors and is only less than half built...
I apologise if I feature camels too much... I've still not grown tired of them and may always find them more interesting than sheep or cows.

An Umm Sequim Mosque.
Brand shiny and new.
Umm Sequim is a rather nice area of town out near the Burj Al Arab etc.

Bluey Don't Ski - #74
It's ok - your eyes don't deceive you. This is in Dubai and this is snow in the desert... whatever next?
The biggest indoor ski slope in the world is in Dubai. Have a look at Ski Dubai

Through the square window - #72
A view of Dubai Creek from a window in Sheikh Maktoum's house.
This is a preserved building dating back to the turn of the last century and houses the most amazing collection of Dubai photographs.
The photos from the 1940s through to the late 1960s are stunning and give a great insight into the just mind boggling pace of development...
If you visit, I recommend a trip here.

Bloke and the Bloop - #69
I couldn't help it - after BLOOOP x 1,000 seemed to go down well, here is another shot of the BLOOOP.
The guy in the background is oblivious to just how near he is to a blooop.

Camel Boy - Nad Al Sheba - #68
Another nice part of Dubai is the camel pens out at Nad Al Sheba.
There has been certain bad practices employed over the years to do with camel jockeys, however now they have been replaced with robots.
I do hope to get a robot camel jockey for you all soon.
P.S. If anyone knows the company that manufactures robot jockeys - can I suggest that they make them small for household pets? I would love to race my three cats...

No chunks, no brine, just the real tuna.
Taken at the frantic yet pleasant sensory overload at the Shindagha fish market.

What Did You Do Today? - #66
This man and his friends built this city (contrary to the 80's hit single, it was them, not Starship).
I think that should be applauded. And to be blunt - they deserve so much better.

A fanoos is a lantern.
A Jez is a bloke I know.
These are both a very welcome addition to the expedition accoutrements.

Spinneys Man - #63
A favourite of mine. Perhaps the first portrait I really tried...
Taken this year at Spinneys (a supermarket like Sainsburys in the UK) in Umm Sequim district of Dubai.
I love his kind face. A man of Pakistani origin that had been in Dubai for over 40 years. The changes he would have seen are amazing...

Something That Is About To Disappear Soon - #62
What is about to disappear?
The whole beach... there are massive developments along this fragile coastline called Dubai Waterfront. It is a huge project plus the building of Jebel Ali airport city (yes, an airport city!?!) near by will ensure this beach will not look like this in possibly 1 more year and it will certainly be gone in 5 years.
A very sad state of affairs. Gone for good.
