Sharjah Mosque - #323
You immediately notice how many mosques there are in Sharjah. Way more than in Dubai it feels and they are very grand affairs too.
Sharjah is a more strict Emirate than Dubai, with generally a more conservative athmosphere and no alcohol allowed at all, more modest clothing etc.

Minarets - #293
Minarets in detail.
I'm curious - I thought that the details on the apex of each minaret should always be crescents. These are full circles. Why?

Shine On You Crazy Diamond - #125
Night shot of the mosque at Zabeel taken on the way home from work tonight...
In the background you can see some buildings on the Sheikh Zayed Road. On the left are the Emirates Towers and the building first left is the Fairmont Hotel and the far right is the World Trade Center building.

Bluey's Homage To Bob - #92
Each month several City Daily Photo blogs take part in a theme. This month has proved to be a challenge for myself, perhaps others too...
It's a little abstract / subjective. The idea is to take a photo like one of the best DPers so far, Bob from Barcelona. In this kind of style.
I was not sure at all which way to go with this...
Anyways, here is Bluey's Homage To Bob.
Taken in the beautiful Jumeriah Mosque, Nov 2006. Dubai UAE.
By the way - I would LOVE to know what Bob thought of our homage.
46 Daily Photo sites are participating in the 1st December theme, "A Photograph from the Waist Down" aka "A Homage To Bob", please use the links to below to visit them.
Due to time zone differences and other factors, the theme photo may not be displayed until later if you are viewing early in the day.

Oud Metha Grass - #91
An oud is a stringed instrument.
Grass is obviously grass.
Oud Metha is a road in / an area of Dubai.
However, what is a "metha"?
This is not a quiz, but a question! What is a "metha"...
Anyone help the expat here? Thanks...

Post It Note From God? - #78
Curious message stuck on the wall of a mosque...
Really - I'm a simple guy. I have no problem with anyone...
I've not visited the site. I try not to take instruction from strangers via post it note when comes to religious matters...

Reaching For The Sky - #75
An Umm Sequim Mosque.
Brand shiny and new.
Umm Sequim is a rather nice area of town out near the Burj Al Arab etc.

A Window To Another Place? - #3
While out for some errands today, I saw this... Dubai's largest (I believe) but certainly most prominent Mosque. I really is a beautiful building. Sandstone and marble in equal portions, dimensions and use. A stunning area. An educational building as the Sheikh Maktoum Center For Cultural Understanding. Daily Tours for non-Muslims. A cross cultural effort to be applauded.
A building with a pure meaning and purpose.
I have some more formal shots of the building that I will post in the future.
However in the spirit of Dubai I choose to present the above shot. A mosque reflected in a shop window.
