The Telephone At The End Of The World - #331

Another phone box... a nice use of solar power too. The UAE needs to embrace solar energy, yet it is still not allowed for buildings that are connected to the national grid to have solar energy.

That's mad in a country with THIS much sun.

Roads? Where We're Going, We Don't Need Roads... - #264

A slight redux / dip in to the achieve... today's shot comes from a thrilling and fantastic dune drive earlier this year.

There is nothing quite like this terrain. Anywhere.

Good times and good friends...

The Darling Buds Of Margham - #224

Any plant experts?

These feel almost alien species to me - take near Margham - which is the only oil field in Dubai and will run out soon.

Not to worry though - Abu Dhabi (the capital of the United Arab Emirates) is still sitting on 10% of the known world oil reserves...

On The Browns - #204

At Hatta we played a short round of nine hole golf. Desert style...

The Greens were called Browns and the fairways were rock strewen, thorn bush infested dusty trails. You carry around a small square of astro turf on to which you place your ball before taking the shot.

A weird variation on the classic game of golf.

Something Wicked This Way Comes - #168

I quit almost a year ago and 100% think it's great not smoking - so why does this look so cool? Damn those clever marketing people...

Where Did You Have Lunch? - #145

This is where we had a bite to eat. Some barbeque items, some chicken breasts with piri piri, lamb with mint, humous, egyptian bread, tabouleh etc. Splendid...

And then back to the big uns....

Apols that you can see the joins - please click for bigger - but I thought it was worth it for such a vista...

Waves - #144

The analogy is too easy...

The exact precision of the crest of the dune was really stunning.

On Top Of The World - #143

One thing about desert driving is the fact that you will get stuck.

A simple stuck may mean just a push out of the sand. Then you get other stucks.

One of which is called beaching. This is a classic beaching. You will notice that all four wheels are not touching the sand, the car is resting on its underside.

To top this off you may also notice we are (at a guess) well over 150 feet (approx 70 metres) up on easily the highest dune on the horizon.

And here is the otherside...

They Went That Way... -#142

Desert driving is like no other driving condition I can think of. It's like driving on a mixture of snow, oil and gravel. It moves, it lives, there are mini avalanches, it sticks, it spins out, it GETS EVERYWHERE... It's all about the momentum and gravity. It's a little like surfing I like to think.

So here we are on the crest of a wave.

Only one way, but down... and whatever you do - keep going straight and try not to hit that brake.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Engines - #141

At the start of the desert adventure. All within a day trip from Dubai. So perhaps bending the rules a little...

However I hope there will be things of interest along the way. This is day one of a series of desert shots.

Hope you like them. Bluey.

The Cycle Of Life - #140

One animal dies and a carpet of flowers spring up in the desert...

... an example of the cycle of life desert style.

A Penny For Your Thoughts? - #35

I really, really want to know what this guy is thinking. No, not even that, I actually want to think exactly what he is thinking.

I often wonder what it would feel like to be immersed in someone else's brain for an hour or a day. I wonder if we all have a similar thought processes or if we are all different, each other's brain patterns and processes like foreign languages...

Taken a short while before sunset. 30 mins from Dubai city. A different world.

Dunelight - #17

As it is Sunday which means it is the start of the working week here and the rest of the world is still chilling on their Sunday - I thought I'd post a simple picture of, in my humble opinion, simple peaceful natural beauty. (not the photo per se, that could be so much better especially with the purple artifact, but whatever I love the scene...)

There's no need to be all complicated now, is there?

Enjoy your time people, simple...

One Hump Or Two, My Dear? - #12

Dubai? Desert? NATURE?? Nah...

Well, not quite true... there are so many indigenous and extrageneous critters here. Drift to the outskirts of the city and you will find some nomadic pachyderms for ones optical pleasure.

Desert Hunter - #1

Dubai Daily Photo is born...

A daily blog of photos taken in and around Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The photos that will be posted here will all be:

1) Taken by myself
2) Taken in Dubai or within a few hours drive from Dubai

The first shot here is one I wanted to start with in order to show a side of Dubai that not everyone thinks of when they consider Dubai. It is not all skyscrapers, glitz, dust, heat, etc... Dubai can be traditional, natural and beautiful, however you do have to make some effort to find it...

I hope to show as many sides of Dubai, its people, buildings, landscape, vistas and more as we go on from here.

Hope you like them and hope you keep coming back form more.

Thanks to Eric and all the daily photo people around the world for such a great project.
