Enjoying The Vu - #81

No, my spelling is quite fine in the title - This is "Vu's Bar" in Emirates Towers.

It has this name as it is the highest bar in the Gulf and is at the highest part of the 50 floor hotel.

They claim to have the biggest cocktail selection possibly in the world... and for some reason are photo-phobic. They tried to remove the camera from me after this shot! I don't know why...

Did you see Eric's post (Paris DP) a couple of days back related to people who have problems with picture taking. A fun read.

Regarding Luggi's comment, Dubai is a curious place to me as well. It seems like someone (not you) is trying too hard to get the world to love the place. Of course, I don't get LA either :)

That's funny Bill, I was about to say the same thing. The discussion on Paris Daily Photo was interesting regarding this subject, regarding both the prison and the homeless man.

DXBuxley, all that aside, I notice you've had several bar shots (at least 2 that I'm aware of). If there something we should talk about? LOL

haha Michael..you are funny:) Isnt a café/bar like this a public place? i mean do they have the right to remove the camera? Beside I dont understand why? Others pay a lot to have their place taken:)

Hi,

Luggi - thank you. Also - what is to get about Dubai? It's a curious question for me, almost as if Dubai had a life of its own?

Bill - Likewise, Dubai is projecting its own personallity - it just wants to be liked but the world thinks its a monster :)

Z - I really don't know what the problem was... they were not heavy about it, but were insistant I should not take photos of the bar directly. The view, yes but the bar, no.

And finally - remember Dubai is not covered by US or even European style laws to protect your rights...

Honestly - yes there is a huge PR machine pushing Dubai around the world. Why? To keep the buisness and tourist investment coming in - which is designed to safe guard the future once the oil revenue dips.

And to be honest it's a good policy... except when people see the PR machine and not the "product"... I think they are now trying too hard and this is resulting in backlash / DP World fiascos etc.

They need to sit back a little...

Michael - 2 bars in 2 and 1/2 months, thats not a problem - it's a disaster! Must go out more often... and from a Frenchman (I think?) what's wrong with a little good food and wine eh? :)

LOL! Nah, I was only kidding. And I'm certainly not French (but don't tell my colleagues that). I'm a yank in Paris since 9 years. So don't know what I am anymore.

Nice blog and pictures.

Would love to see the view from those windows at night.

Monster? I have never heard that. Until recently, I think many people had simply never heard of Dubai. But then again people in the US can be somewhat self centered. :)
