In Their Flying Machines - #240

Just back from camping on Jebal Ali beach - the last time before the summer gets too hot - it's about 37 deg C currently during the day.

We had just set up the tents when a visitor buzzed in from the skies. This is a powered paraglider. It was very graceful and looked pretty easy to maneuver. I want one...

Do they still require people to get a 'permit' before camping?

...or was that some 'rule' I read about in the newspaper years ago that has been forgotten?

okay..my parents kinda killed the idea of even thinking about getting one of the two options you told me earlier...so I've zeroed in on these two models...one Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H5 & the Canon PowerShot S3, not really great but well kinda in my budget. The Sony comes for 1799 while the canon is for 1699. What would be your advice...

Sam - technically you do need a permit - however we tried to get one the first time and it was hassle... we've since been many times over the last 3 years and we've never once been asked to provide a permit. The cops do cruise around though they appear just to be happy to ensure that things are not getting out of hand. It's all pretty chilled...

Stained - they both look very nice cameras for the price. Both have a lot of manual features. If you can check them both out in store to see what you think.

Reading the reviews only - if I had to choice one (my previous camera was Sony and my current one is Canon, I likeboth brands) I'd go for the Sony.

They both look nice though...

I've tried both these camera's & they both seem good. The sony is my preference but my friends think the Canon will be a better choice, brand is more reliable & all.

any close competitor to these two models you know off..???
