The $10billion Man - #276

Here are the front gates to Sheikh Maktoum's palace in Dubai.

I've mentioned this before, however I really do believe that the leaders / rulers of the UAE get it right to a higher degree than western leaders, with more respect and greater success.

I do respect them quite a lot. One example - one of the largest charity donations in the world. Ever. US$10billion towards education.Sheikh Mohammed I really do salute you.

That's quite an impressive garden gate. What must the house be like?

He appears to be a good leader & controls a fairly crime free city. Shame other countries arn't the same.

I too salute Sheikh Mohammed al Maktoum.

I really wish I could meet him and discover his inspiration and ideals and what goes on around the building of Dubai.

I'm sure he's a great sportsman and it's interesting to see how he has used the race horses to decorate the arch.....here's an A level question: compare and contrast these with the "winged Victory horses" seen in European capitals.

Somewhat a benevolent leader...yet he does turn a blind out to pesky things like the hardships of third world workers

Gails Man - I really would love to see inside. The men with the big guns indicated I wasn't welcome today... however I seem to remember that he has an open door session during Eid I think...

'roon - must consider your question - Admiralty Arch, Brandesburg Gate etc... whats your take on it? DXB less warrior styling? Certainly no charriots!

Cranky - this is always the main accuastion that's levelled. Is it really directly government encouraged / endorsed? Not sure. Condonned, maybe... Required for the growth - definitely. Justified, no... Am I happy with it, no. I do think it's complicated though.... and too big for this response! What do you think of it Ms Far-Flung Dubai....?

When I came here I was surprised to see his and the other ruler's faces all over the place, and not just on big posters and murals, but also on car windows. They really love and revere their rulers here. Could imagine someone in the UK having a picture of Blair on their car window?

But then, none of these Emiratis are poor, are they?
