I'm happy to announce the launch of my new photography business - Event Images.

I really enjoyed running Dubai Daily Photo for a year back in 2007 / 2008 but I never thought then that it was also forming the skill set and knowledge base for what would become my business... Thanks to Eric and all the great daily photographers around the world for inspiration and also great feedback...

Event Images is a Dubai based event photography business covering the Middle East region. With emphasis on event, conference and PR images.

Event Images was created to serve the event and conference sectors as we know what it is like to run events, we've done that, we've also presented at events and used images to great effect in both marketing and PR for many years. ... where as I'm quite often praying for parking... ok, that was a cheap line... although I will admit that I'm somewhere near being athiest. The one thing about that club is nobody is out to protect your rights. I think that's a bit of a relief, I don't like people speaking on my behalf all the time... having said that, this mosque is slapbang centre Bur Dubai and in traffic mayhem - so fair play to the parking protection for those seeking to pray.

I know, another water fountain shot. I really am a big fan of them and they really are all over the place if you look.

Notice that the really nice metallic cup here is not attached in any way to the fountain - i.e. very easy to steal. And for who knows how long, it has remained here. I really like what this says about the society here... respectful is a good word.

Hard Rock Cafe Dubai - once upon a time this was at the end of the Earth. The tallest and most isolated building, before the Marina madness took hold.

Now it's surrounded by 50+ towers and looks a little quaint and it looks like Spiderman or King Kong should be scaling its diminutive, yet splendid visage.

As promised, a space rocket... however I have to make an admission (and even feel a little guilty) - this shuttle, the skier, the giraffes and the fine elephants are all fakes, props or indeed adverts for the stupidly huge mega project that is simply called Dubailand.

It is too big to comprehend - it will actually be bigger than the current size of Dubai city. It will also be twice the size of all of the Disneyland/DisneyWorld resorts put together, currently the largest collection of amusement parks in the world.

Palm trees are not actually tress. There are approx 130 species of Palms covering a wide range of climates. These Palms here in Dubai are usually Date Palms - The date palm belongs to the family Palmae, genus Phoenix, species dactylifera.

DAtes are seen as very healthy - however, go easy on them - they pack in 3,000 cals per KG and are a natural laxative...

Dear Daily Photo,

I suspect that this message will be greeted with a dose of scepticism, however I assure you this photo record has been sent from me, Bluey - here today, August 2nd 2028. I'm now 55 years old and I still live in the city I used to call Dubai.

You'll be shocked to learn that Space City has been abandoned as a loss now, the desert blasted in 5 mad minutes and turned to glass. The dunes now look like ornamental crap the Gods would buy one another on a cheap holiday. The last remnants of the new Bedouins of Urb_Arabia are leaving.

Anyway - I need to be brief, I need you to remember these simple truths, axioms for life if you like...

1) Listen to the dolphins, they will thank you for all the fish, however a desert is not the place for them.

2) De La Soul were right. 3 is the magic number.

You immediately notice how many mosques there are in Sharjah. Way more than in Dubai it feels and they are very grand affairs too.

Sharjah is a more strict Emirate than Dubai, with generally a more conservative athmosphere and no alcohol allowed at all, more modest clothing etc.

I am not a religious person at all. I did find this to be an interesting image. I also wanted to explain it a little...

Taken on the public beach in Jumeriah today.

There are a surprising amount of people still using the beach even though it was about 42 degrees today. A breeze was trying to help, but it was still very hot.

You can see the Burj Dubai in the background here. It is now the tallest building in the world as far as I know. You can also from this just how close Sheikh Zayed Road (the Burj Dubai is on the SZR) is to the beach.

A vital part of Dubai's history and earlt success is the Creek. The original wooden dwellings lined the Creek and the main economy was based on trade and pearl fishing.

Yet somehow, even with his deep knowledge of his environs, the Bilge Rat was being reeled in, like so many pounds of struggling snapper. Bluey sensed blood in the water, flashing strobotically and viciously grabbing the image...

Cyclone Gonu has just grazed the UAE - it was a serious category 5 hurricane (the maximum). Oman was hit hard with a lot of flooding and Iran has suffered losses of life.

Dubai was quite far from the effected areas, however I am sure the clouds tonight in this shot were somehow related to the great depression of Gonu.

Well, it's actually for your own good - the water used for a lot of the public horticulture is "grey water" as far as I know. And that means it's been recycled from other uses and isn't that clean anymore...

Satwa is an interesting area of Dubai.

It's very central and is one of the older parts of town. It's also one of the less affluent areas, yet has the most vibrant street scenes and definitely the most useful shops...

By the way - it's getting hot, too hot. 2 hours out in 40+ degree heat today for the blog... getting concerned for the summer ahead!

The painted wall behind these guys reads Family Room. I have no idea what that would be...

A little hill in the sand... this is the biggest dune near Dubai and has the knick name Big Red.

There are various quad bike areas around here that are fun for an half hour or so - or you can over crank your short wheel base Nissan Patrol and blast to the top...

I tend to think marketing in the UAE is no where near world class.

I do quite like the use of the bus benches... at least they're useful and colourful!

This is one of the latest golf course developments. I grew up where the game of golf originated and now it seems I live in the country that has become golf obsessed.

There are courses and developments here that are designed by Colin Montgomery, The Great White Shark, Ernie Els and of course, Tiger Woods happening now. It's big business...
